Purpose of our Ministry

The purpose of 1 John 3 Ministries is “To communicate the gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed to those in poverty.” We seek to carry through this purpose by a verbal presentation of the gospel as the Lord opens the doors; making decent, suitable and affordable housing available to them (rent to own); encouraging parents and children in education and life skills (e.g. tutoring, financial management, job training, parenting, etc); helping remove barriers to employment and breaking out of poverty through coming along side as needed (e.g. Individual Development Accounts, medical and educational help); and helping create communities that are more free from crime and blight where children and parents alike feel safe.

Scope of Work

The means by which we will accomplish our mission are three-fold.

  • First, we seek to purchase and renovate homes in Clinton through the financial/material gifts, hard work and passionate hearts of the larger Clinton community (e.g. partner with United Ministries for utility assistance and job training, with Carpenters for Christ for renovation).
  • Second, we desire to help those in need by loving them as Christ loved and loves us and by using rental income (minus insurance, taxes, etc.) for educational, health, and other issues brought on by poverty (e.g. buying a car).
  • Third, we are working through the Chalmer’s Center for Economic Development to implement “Faith and Finances” courses right here in Clinton in 2016. This is designed specifically for poor and low-income families wanting help with their budget and savings. Many adults have never been taught how to plan meals, cut coupons and compare costs at a store. Because of crisis, some families take on debt that they can’t pay for and ruin their credit so that the only financing available to them is very high-interest loans. There is a cost to poverty and it is the Church’s responsibility to help the weak and weary with our words and deeds.

To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak; I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some. I do all things for the sake of the gospel, so that I may become a fellow partaker of it.”
~~ 1 Corinthians 9:22-23
