With actions & In truth

The Mission of 1 John 3 Ministries

This is how 1 John 3 Ministries knows what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.
~~~(1 John 3:16-18)
What does 1 John 3 Ministry do?
1 John 3 Ministries is a Non-profit 501c3 that benefits families in Clinton, SC. What does 1 John 3 Ministry do? We seek to create safe affordable housing and learning opportunities for people who are working but fall under the poverty line. Our ministry obtains houses through donation or auction. We renovate them and match them with families in need. We build deep relationships with those families and share the love of Christ “in actions and in truth.” 1 John3:18
Poverty is rooted in broken relationships,
so the solution to poverty is rooted in the power of Jesus’ death
and resurrection to put all things in right relationship again.”
Poverty in Clinton puts children and families at risk for poor outcomes for the rest of their life. In Laurens County, the median household income in 2013 was $35,406. The National poverty guidelines for 2010 state that an annual income of $22,050 for a family of four lives at the poverty line. An annual income of $44,100 for a family of 4 would be considered low income. Factors that contribute to the increase of income insecurity include low wages, lower levels of education, rising costs of healthcare and child care, and family disruptions such as through divorce and single parenting.
  • 24% of Clinton’s population lives below the poverty line currently. The National average is 13%.
  • 10% live below half of the poverty line. That would be below $11,025 per year for a family.
  • 80% of children in Clinton schools come from low income homes.
The city of Clinton has hope to improve housing in the community. The 2013 Strategic plan states there is a need for more median valued 3 bedroom rental properties for families in Clinton. With statistics on poverty compared to the rental market cost for safe clean homes of that size and value, it is unlikely many of Clinton’s low-income families can afford the home they really need for their family. 1 John 3 provides low affordable rent for our clients. This Ministry is accompanied by the financial counseling, spiritual support and friendship that landlords do not provide.
